 Department of Anatomy

Prior to the establishment of the Faculty of Medical Science, under the Establishment Project of the Faculty of Medical Science in 1996, pre-clinical anatomy instruction was to be conducted under the management of the soon to be Department of Medical Science. However, as the restructuring of Health Science Faculties unfolded in 1998, Anatomy Division was established under then School of Medicine at Naresuan University. As the School of Medicine transitioned to become Faculty of Medicine, the Anatomy Division was re-structured as the Anatomy Department to carry out instructions of all anatomical studies including Gross Anatomy, Microscopic Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Human Embryo Development, and Medical Genetics. Later with the establishment of the Faculty of Medical Science in 2001, the Anatomy Department found its current home at the new faculty and since served the purpose of conducting pre-clinical instructions for health sciences students including those pursuing degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, and Public Health, as well as supporting health science research activities.

 Department of  Microbiology and Parasitology

The Microbiology and Parasitology Department’s responsibilities encompasses instructions, research, academic services to society, and the preservation of arts and culture especially in the Lower Northern area of Thailand. It was first established as the Microbiology Department under the Faculty of Science to produce Bachelor of Science in Microbiology graduates since 1993. In 2000, the department was merged with the Parasitology Division and transitioned to become the Microbiology and Parasitology Department under the Faculty of Medicine. Shortly after, in 2001, the department became part of the newly established Faculty of Medical Science and has maintain its status since then. Presently, the Microbiology and Parasitology Department is responsible for instructions of Microbiology Courses to produce graduates at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including both master’s and doctoral degree candidates, as well as instructing Microbiology- and Parasitology-related courses as required by curricular both inside and outside of the Faculty of Medical Science.

Department of Biochemistry

The Biochemistry Department was first started as the Establishment Project of Biochemistry Department under the Faculty of Science in 1994. The Bachelor of Science Program in Biochemistry began its instructions in 1995 for the first crop of 20 students, but was soon merged with the Bachelors of Science Program in Chemistry in 1997. The first official Biochemistry Department was founded in 1996 under the Faculty of Science. The department was responsible for the instructions of Biochemistry and Medical Biochemistry I & II for all undergraduate level health science students, as well as postgraduate students pursuing Master’s degrees in Biology, Environmental Science, Agriculture, and Natural Resources and Environments. In 1999, the department was operating under the Faculty of Medicine. Eventually, with the establishment of the Faculty of Medical Science, the Biochemistry Department found its current home and has been operating under the Faculty of Medical Science since October 1st, 2001.

Department of Physiology

The Physiology Department was founded alongside the Faculty of Medicine. In 1995, it was first established as the Physiology Division under the Faculty of Medical Science Establishment project. Later, the division was operating under the Faculty of Medicine during 1998 – 2000. At the establishment of the Faculty of Medical Science in 2001, the Physiology Division transition into its status as the Physiology Department along with three other departments. In 1996, our instructors began teaching Medical Physiology to the first group of students in the Faculty of Medicine with the collaborative teaching team of instructors from the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University; Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University; and Faculty of Science, Rangsit University, with our own instructors as course coordinators. During 1997 – 2001, we began instructing students from the Faculties of Nursing, Dentistry, Allied Health Science, and Pharmaceutical Science. Concurrently, instructions were conducted with the help of instructors from the Faculties of Medicine and of Pharmaceutical Science, Chulalongkorn University, while we develop our own instructors team with the help of scholarships from the then Division of Universities and Naresuan University. Beginning in 2001, the department’s instructions were conducted mainly by our own instructors, servicing the degree programs in Clinical Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, and the continuing education program in Nursing for the Nursing Colleges of the Upper Central Region. From our small beginning until now, our successful instructions were done with the help of invited instructors and the sacrifice and hard work of the core department members. Currently, the department hosts 18 instructors, with 4 currently pursuing higher education degrees, one department coordinator, and two full-time scientists. The departmental office is at Room MD412, 4th floor of the Faculty of Medical Science Building.
